Spring is in the Air Facial Care

It’s official. Spring is coming early. And with just 6 weeks to prepare, I have a lot of clients asking me how to undo the damage done by those frigid months of November, December, and January. When the temperatures drop, skin can become dry, flaky, and irritated. Just how do you give it a fresh start for spring? Read on to find out the right facial care routine for your skin.

Spring Forward by Putting your Best Face Forward

Just like our wardrobe, when the weather changes, so do our skin needs. The damage done by cranking up the heaters in our cars, and then battling the icy cold elements of rain and ice does a number on the epidermis (the outer layer of skin). To reverse these effects and spring forward into spring with your best face forward, I recommend to my clients three important things: Exfoliate, Cleanse, and Moisturize.

Exfoliate to Regenerate

First things first, don’t make the mistake of over-scrubbing, over-cleaning, or over-treating your fragile frosty facial skin. Chilly temps can cause the outermost protective layer of skin to become damaged, making your skin more vulnerable to irritants and bacteria. Instead, become best friends with hydration and exfoliation. This dynamic duo is the keys to smoother skin in spring. Gently, remove dry skin cells with a non-abrasive exfoliator such as a cream based scrub which contains beta-hydroxy acid formula and microbeads. The beta-hydroxy acids will loosen the dead cells of the epidermis, and make room for new skin to regenerate.

Make Friends with the Cleanse

Your facial care routine should follow with a mild unscented soap that won\’t strip away natural oils. I recommend a calming foaming cleanser such as Yonka Lait Nettoyant Cleansing Milk, which will reduce moisture loss and keep your epidermis happy.

Prioritize the Moisturizer

Rebuild your skin\’s outer layer and repair the barriers of your skin with a moisturizer such as  Yonka Hydra Creme N1, which boosts hydration and reduces water loss. Don\’t forget to add sunscreen, and make sure it’s SPF 30 or higher!  This will keep your face protected against those harmful springtime sun rays. It may not be in the 90’s quite yet, but even minimal sun exposure can cause skin damage, eye damage, immune system suppression, and yes, skin cancer. So beat the heat and block it up! Finish up, with makeup packed with moisturizers and vitamins (and more sunscreen of course).

More Facial Care Recommendations

In addition, a skin care line that utilizes natural oils such as Rosemary, Lavender, and Ginseng (mmm I can smell the aromas now) are packed with healing properties to hydrate, firm, calm, reduce redness, and take you into the next season with glowing skin. These three ingredients and more are included in Yonka’s Skin care line, which is for sale at Estilo Salon.
